GFG Touchscreen Glass Film Glass

Touchscreen design

The top layer of our GFG touchscreens is a very thin glass. Despite its thickness of only 0.1 mm, this glass is very impact-resistant, scratch-resistant and waterproof.

In this way, we combine resistive pressure-based technology with the advantages of glass.

Patented GFG touchscreen

We have been successfully manufacturing the patented GFG touchscreen structure for more than 8 years. GFG is the abbreviation for Glass Film Glass.

The GFG touchscreen patent was filed and confirmed by the inventor Albert David at the Patent Office in 2001.

Sensor structure GFG Touchscreen ULTRA

The sensor of the resistive ULTRA touch screen consists of a polyester film (PET) coated with the semiconducting chemical ITO (indium tin oxide) and laminated to the bottom glass layer.

Above the foil is a layer of so-called insulating spacer dots. These, in turn, are connected by a double-sided adhesive sealing layer with a linear grid.

Thus, the membrane is separated from the surface glass substrate. It is only through the pressure-based contact of the surface glass that a circuit closes at the respective point, which makes it possible to measure the exact point of contact.

4- or 5-wire connections are usually used to measure the exact position, but 8-wire technology is also possible.

Increased Lifespan of the ULTRA sensor compared to resistive PET touch screens

In contrast to conventional resistive touchscreens with polyester surfaces, the sensor of our ULTRA GFG touchscreen is protected by a robust micro-glass surface and a laminated glass back, which significantly increases the service life of the sensor.

Nevertheless, the sensor of our ULTRA touchscreen is also exposed to mechanical wear, although external factors that accelerate wear are excluded by the GFG construction.

Our test procedures prove a service life of the sensor of a 5-wire ULTRAS of 225 million individual actuations per point of contact of 85 grams of activation force.

Advantages of the GFG touchscreen

The hard glass surface of the GFG ULTRA touchscreen offers significant advantages that are very valuable for many applications.

The GFG ULTRA touchscreens made of tempered glass are characterized by high impact and scratch resistance and are also absolutely waterproof. In addition, glass is permanently transparent and does not interfere with the brilliance of the image in any way.

By combining resistive technology with the glass surface, the GFG ULTRA creates an extremely robust touch that perfectly combines the advantages of other technologies with those of resistive technology. This includes the fact that the resistive technology is extremely stable and can be operated with any object based on pressure.

In sensitive applications such as clinics/medicines or industrial environments, particularly high reliability and absolutely individual operability with different objects (fingers, gloves, pens, tools, etc.) are particularly important.

Advantages:

  • Hard glass surface
  • Scratch-resistant construction
  • Waterproof touch screen
  • Chemical resistance
  • Increased lifespan
